NOWNESS treats the world with the latest installment of their new Shorts on Sundays series. This episode features Los Angeles-based filmmaker Kahlil Joseph, who offers his project d’art Wildcat. The piece is an exploration of a little-known African-American rodeo subculture, which is accompanied by music from none other than Flying Lotus. Both gentlemen have previously collaborated with Joseph on a short to accompany his 2012 offering Until the Quiet Comes, which is an official selection for the 2013 Sundance Short Film Program.
Wildcat is a state of mind; an experiment inspired by the composition and performance of jazz music. The characters that populate this world are actual – cowboys; and envisioned – angels. The town they all inhabit is real – Grayson, Oklahoma. — Kahlil Joseph
