Amongst Vancouver’s most discerning menswear retail establishments is Roden Gray. Set apart by top-tier ready-to-wear accessories and publications, the directional boutique specializes in contemporary fashion and purveying the up-and-coming. Owner Rob Lo — who splits his time between the Gastown boutique and actively working with Canadian staple, Wings + Horns — sat down with us recently to touch on a few items that are pertinent to his every day.
Exhibiting several choice personal accessories we couldn’t resist turning over once or twice in our hands, Rob picked the smartly crafted PHIGVEL Makers & Co. key holder and the iconic aviation-inspired IWC Big Pilot watch, well matched with other pointedly timeless inclusions. Lo also swears by the quality of Thom Browne’s oxford shirts, several of which line his closet thanks to their superior weight and fit, while relying on Byredo’s collaborative cologne with Dutch imprint Fantastic Man as his scent of preference. As an eclectic handmade inclusion, a 35lb planter crafted from Carrera marble by Canadian artist Jean-Claude LeBlanc rounds out the selection. Without being over-thought, Rob’s medley of belongings in his Essentials parallels the refined taste level that reels shoppers through Roden Gray’s doors over and over.
