Essentials: Travi$ Scott

While our HYPETRAK interview with newly initiated G.O.O.D. Music artist Travi$ Scott helped uncover the mind behind the music, perhaps nothing is more insightful than discovering what an artist cannot live without. The past year has been an exciting one for Travi$ to say the least. He not only joined G.O.O.D.’s “Grammy Family,” but today released his debut album, Owl Pharaoh. The highly-anticipated debut, which was rumored to have a track featuring none other than Kanye West, will likely define what much of the hip-hop community and fan base will think of Scott. With his reputation still yet to be decided, the question remains: Will he rise to the occasion and prove that Kanye’s recruitment of him was a wise decision? Only time will tell.

As for his Essentials, there is a healthy mix of technology, jewelry, and the ever-important travel essential: a passport. If his camouflage jacket doesn’t look particularly familiar, that’s because Travi$ bought it in his native Texas and it doesn’t exactly fall under the umbrella of brands rappers are “supposed to like.” Of course as a G.O.O.D. Music artist Scott has the obligatory Air Yeezy 2′s, while other items like his BAPE socks and Supreme shirt are staples of any fashion-savvy wardrobe nowadays. Perhaps the most vital essential of all is the hard drive, that stores his new music and arguably his livelihood and creativity. His close ties with creative collective #Been #Trill explain the presence of his snapback, while his friendship with producer Mike Dean explain why he has the man’s Swisher Sweets. The least recognizable of the items in Scott’s Essentials is his ram necklace, that was custom-designed by one of the rapper’s friends named Guierllmo. All in all, these are items that symbolize Travi$’s rapid growth over the past year or so, meaning it is definitely possible that he had none of these items in say, 2011. That’s not necessarily a bad thing — after all, it is the purpose of Essentials to capture a moment in time for a person, simply reflected in the items that define it. And for Travi$ Scott, these items are of particular importance because right now is perhaps the most definitive time in his young career.
