Anushka - Yes Guess (New Gilles Peterson Signing)

Having made its debut with Gilles Peterson‘s Brownswood recording via an enticing sub-filled dance release titled “Tried & Tried” on Brownswood electr*c 3, Anushka – otherwise known as Max Wheeler and Victoria Port – are back with an EP dubbed Yes Guess. Drawing from the myriad of British club influences and punctuated by moving vocal leads, the track is strung by a set of dusky snares over an ambient, but forceful house tempo. Elsewhere, the continuous ”gusse” chant nods at more tribal, outlandish territories, ruffing up the edges to the soulful deliverance. Straddling between attributes of a stripped-back Detroit construction and odes of UK funky, Anushka flaunts its affinity for the melding of genres without forgoing easy-listening qualities. The EP will drop on April 15; no news yet on who will jump on a remix tip, but considering Brownswood’s extensive bag of gifted artisans we’re sure it’ll be something worth your while.
