A few weeks ago, fast-rising London band Daughter finally announced details of their debut album. The long-awaited LP, If You Leave, features 10 tracks and will hit stores worldwide on March 18 through 4AD and in the U.S. on April 30 through Glassnote Records. Devoted fans may have heard live or earlier versions of a few of the 10 tracks on it, but there is still plenty of never-before-heard material to ingest. That includes this brand new cut from the album, “Still.” This isn’t just another song release for bandmates Elena Tonra, Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella, though. “Still” marks the first official music video they have ever unveiled to the world. Unlike many bands making their big YouTube feature debut, in this Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard-helmed clip, the members of Daughter do not take front and center. Instead, the three are seen on an old television set that illuminates a bedroom where a female enters late at night and faces sadness and contemplation as she gets ready to lie down next to her significant other. Tonra has long been applauded for the way she translates deep feelings through song, and that has taken her group extremely far. But this time, as she sheds light on the emotions that transpire in troubled relationships, she has visuals to accompany her vivid lyrics and affecting voice. If there is one thing to take away from “Still,” it’s that Daughter has officially arrived to paint unique musical portraits of situations in life and love that we can all relate to.
