Set amidst darkened backgrounds and using a little powder to provide dramatic effect, photographer Ben Franke presents a series of images that capture the acrobatic flare in the world of parkour. Shot in New York using a Canon 5D Mark II with 24-80mm lens, various ledges and walls give birth to maneuvers that transcend both art and sport – leaving the viewer with a static image that reveals the interplay between subject and shutterbug. In speaking about the project Franke commented, “It’s a challenge for any photographer to convey authentic movement in a photograph — as it’s a 2D medium — but my series Parkour Motion attempts to translate motion by displaying the energy and power of these athletes.”
