American synthpop meets indie rock band Polica has herald a great following since its recent inception in 2011. While the group still has some way to go before earning iconic status, its unique disposition in the realm of art rock makes it one of the most buzzed about groups in the indie dance realm. With the charismatic Channy Laneagh spearheading the group with her compelling vocals, Polica is never short of a dynamic performance. Aptly marrying Leaneagh’s moving falsetto — that often includes an offbeat use of Auto-tune — with the band’s unconventional drum loops and uplifting percussion, the band’s second studio effort Shulasmith finds a melange of dreamy lo-fi rhythms with chart-friendly appeal. In Laneagh’s Music Essentials, we get a glimpse at the necessities needed to keep her vocal delivery on top form, with honey and green tea providing fine tuning, a microphone as her weapon on choice, and a Pioneer EFX to add special effects to her all-embracing performances.
