Far removed from his original tag as Rei Kawakubo’s apprentice (though there are worse shadows to live in), Junya Watanabe now sits in his own league as one of the more avant-garde fashion designers working today. The Japanese maverick designer revealed his 2013 fall/winter collection in Paris recently, continuing his trend of pattern interplay. Watanabe thrives off of his cosmic influence; where one designer likes slim, tapered looks, he prefers layers of patch-worked wool. There is a certain organic, warm feel to the collection, which draws from working culture to deliver an original aesthetic.
