Carly Rae Jepsen has just learned this lesson all too well as PSY‘s record-breaking clip has surpassed her ubiquitous hit “Call Me Maybe” on YouTube. At the time of writing a YouTube search for “Gangnam Style” shows the video had exactly 271,891,011 views whereas “Call Me Maybe” 268,877,104 views. PSY’s viral monster was uploaded to YouTube on July 15, yielding 100 million views at the beginning of September and more than two-and-a-half times that total today. In fact, a New York Times article from just four days ago pegged it at about 220 million YouTube views. “Call Me Maybe” was uploaded on March 1.
