The summer of 2012 is shaping up to be one of the best ever for sports fans. While the Olympics are probably the biggest attraction this summer in regards to general global interest, two tantalizing appetizers are currently playing out: the NBA Finals and the UEFA Euro 2012 Championships. In one corner is the imminent crowning of a new first-time NBA Champion among a class of premier NBA players to have never hoisted a championship. The Miami Heat and trifecta of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh do battle against small market Oklahoma City Thunder, and Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook in what is shaping up to be a thrilling encounter that will not disappoint. Nothing more needs to be said – the Heat are out to silence the critics after the controversial move to assemble a super-team of sorts which has yet to materialize in any hardware. Moving onto the other side of the spectrum, this summer’s UEFA Euro 2012 Championships represent a busy summer for European internationals. After an unforgettable end to the English Premier League and fresh allegations of match-fixing in Italy, the game has gone from one drama to another. Marred by fan violence during the Poland vs. Russia game, security aside there lies some interesting question marks including the uninspiring play of the Netherlands which ensures an early exit, Cristiano Ronaldo’s title as the “new Torres,” and how successful England’s “park the bus” tactics will be.
