For Spring/Summer 2013, Marni has become decidedly enamored with the idea of geometry and reduction as it strips down its designs to their most essential form in favor of accentuating elements such as the lines and precision cuts of each piece. Playing around with dot motifs, linework and geometric structures, the collection arrives made from choice textiles such as cotton poplin, bonded crispy cotton, double jersey and technical poplin. In addition to the comprehensive range for the forthcoming season, Marni also has aligned with Dutch artist Rop van Mierlo for a special “Wild Animals” collaborative project. The designs display an aesthetic of blotchy-shaped animals such as a donkey, a parrot, an ostrich, and a tiger, each created exclusively for Marni and emblazoned onto a series of T-shirts. Each of the animal inspirations are culled from van Mierlo’s book Wild Animals which also has earned the Best Dutch Design Award in 2011.
