Shwood Florence Sunglasses
Most wooden sunglasses can’t compete with acetate on a practical level — especially with frame fit
Most wooden sunglasses can’t compete with acetate on a practical level — especially with frame fit and longevity. But when you look at the depth of compelling and exceptionally high-quality offerings from Oregon-based optics label Shwood, practicality quickly seems a trivial issue. Painstakingly handcrafted in their Portland workshop, each Shwood frame utilizes unique hardwoods and rare tree burls to create a singular piece with a genuine, deeply ingrained personality that transcends even its own silhouette. New for 2012, Shwood is offering the “Florence,” a classic P3-inspired frame with a keyhole nose bridge. The entire frame has been crafted from Santos Mahogany, and if you look closely at the temples, you’ll also notice the subtly contrasting Quilted Maple which has been inlaid into the frame instead of metal rivets. The Florence is available with polarized Carl Zeiss lenses, and comes with a custom-made wooden storage box. You can pick up a pair directly from the Shwood online shop, where they retail for $250 USD.
