In a daring new take on the nutcracker, New York-based artist Jennifer Rubell has created 18 life-sized representations that have been crafted to resemble the female form. Utilizing re-purposed mannequins as a starting point, the pieces have been displayed on their sides with their legs in a wide-set manner for you guessed it – the nuts to be placed between the figure’s legs. A small, circular indentation outfitted with a serrated metal strip imbedded within the shallow space allows for enough force to crack the hard-shelled offering.
