Nepenthes began as a retailer in Japan during the late ’80s as a purveyor of some of the era’s fashion favorites. Now with a global cult-like following, the brainchild of Abdul Abasi and Angelo Urrutia has now grown to encompass a successful New York store with celebrated brands like Engineered Garments, Needles, its own namesake label (an online shop partnered with influential retailer Park & Bond), and most recently a newly developed website, Nepenthes NY Presents. Separate from the brand’s blog, Nepenthes NY Presents offers a series of original content created to highlight some of the brand’s favorite items and products on sale in its store. The first editorial, Let’s Make History Part 1, is the inaugural installment of a three-part story featuring selected merchandise from the store’s 2012 spring/summer collections. This project was shot by JIMA on location in and around Port Authority, 7th and 8th Avenues, and Bryant Park. It features a young man sporting a hat by Sonic Lab, glasses by Oliver Peoples, Tops by Engineered Garments, and Needles and pants from TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloist.
