Sad news from Bobby Womack arrive to us today. According to BET, legendary soul musician Bobby Womack has been hospitalized and is reportedly in the early stages of colon cancer. Bootsy Collings broke the news first through his Twitter:
“Funkateers, send prayers & love vibes up for Bobby Womack. He is fighting pneumonia in the hospital now. Will update after I talk to him,” Collins tweeted, followed by an update moments ago.
“I JUST SPOKE TO OUR FRIEND BOBBY WOMACK. He Wanted You All to Know That He Loves You & Thxs for the Prayers. Docs Says He Is In 1st Stage of Colon Cancer, He is Very Up Beat About His Future, we laughed & joked before we hung up. Thxs Funkateers, we will get him Back on the One!”
The award-winning crooner has suffered from prostate cancer and struggled with drug abuse in the past. Womack’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame career includes timeless hits like “Woman’s Gotta Have It,” “Lookin’ for a Love” and “If You Think You’re Lonely Now.” Womack has also been working on his first album in over a decade, The Bravest Man in Universe, to be released in June. The project which finds him teaming up Damon Albarn, frontman for the Gorillaz and Blu. The Bravest Man in the Universe is set to be released in June.
