The early inspiration for the Topman Design 2012 fall/winter collection comes from the dark, sensual, cultural stance of a young Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe. Long, heavy lux coats in rich textured fabrics – mohair, soft boucle, hi-shine PVC and thick wool pile are belted at the waist, creating pieces that create the staple silhouette. Mapplethorpe’s famous lily print provides graphic inspiration and is repeated across beautiful silk shirts – although dark and distorted in keeping with the pace and mood of the rest of the collection.
