M.I.A.‘s anticipated followup to her 2010 album /\/\/\Y/\ looks like it won’t be released in time for its previously shared December date according to Spin Magazine. The upcoming album, set to be titled Matangi, was further detailed when the multi-talented artist made a visit to the Queens outpost of the Museum of Modern Art. M.I.A., whose birth name is Mathangi Maya Arulpragasam, discovered that a Matangi is not only a green parrot, but is also the name of the Hindu goddess of spoken word who fought for the purity of information, and represented the Untouchables.
Reasons for the delay of her upcoming album could be due to extracurricular activities she invests herself into outside of music. Highlighted in her latest cover-story with PAPERMAG, it looks like Arulpragasam is not only busy with the release of her brand new book, but she’s also working on an upcoming art exhibit. Spending her time creating an “architectural piece” for the first Kochi-Muziris Biennale in Kerala, India, Maya plans to open her exhibit in December, and eventually to turn it into the stage set for her next tour. M.I.A.’s self-titled book is out now via Rizzoli.
