Unveiled at the 2012 Sao Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil is a new concept SUV from Volkswagen, dubbed the Taigun. Utilizing the New Small Family (NSF) front-wheel drive platform of the Volkswagen up!, the crossover weighs little more than 2,000 lbs and comes powered by a turbocharged 1.0 liter, three cylinder engine offering 108 hp, 129 lb-ft of torque, a top speed of 115 mph, and acceleration from 0 mph to 60 mph in about nine seconds. Featuring a six-speed manual transmission, the concept vehicle’s direct fuel injection and turbo combine for a fuel efficiency estimated to approach 60 mpg. With the demand for crossovers expanding greatly in global markets in recent years, a production version of the Volkswagen Taigun SUV is set to hit Europe, Asia and South America in the near future.
