Smith I/O Recon Goggles
Smith Optics’ best-selling I/O Goggle is getting a radical new upgrade in the form of a Micro

Smith Optics’ best-selling I/O Goggle is getting a radical new upgrade in the form of a Micro Optics Display (MOD), courtesy of Recon Instruments. Believing that rival Zeal’s in-goggle HUD was a game-changer that lacked a certain finesse, the collaboration with Recon’s MOD technology will equip the new I/O goggle with direct-to-eye communication in the form of real-time jump analytics, weather and buddy tracking, a navigation app pre-loaded with the largest database of trail maps in the world, and even a music playlist mode, all navigable via a bluetooth-enabled smartphone or wireless remote. Most impressive about the partnership though is that Recon plans to soon make available to the end-user a software developer’s kit, allowing for a greater degree of customizable functionality, as well as the creation of apps. An official release date for the updated I/O Recon has not been slated, but you can stay abreast of any updates of the goggle’s progress at Smith Optics or Recon Instruments.
