SoulCulture TV: Jay Electronica & The Bullitts

SoulCulture TV sat down with the creative brains behind the innovative audiovisual experience known as The Bullitts, Jeymes Samuel and fellow collaborator Jay Electronica. This following their energetic performance at the Big Chill Festival 2011, held earlier this month at Eastnor Castle Deer Park in Herefordshire, UK. The pair have an animated chat about the experience of working together on their joint EP, their mutual musical appreciation, and how their forthcoming album came about with a lineup that includes actors Idris Elba and Lucy Liu.

“This man is an amazing musician,” New Orleans emcee Electronica says of Samuels, explaining why he was driven to get involved in the Bullitts project whilst Jeymes describes their work as “a portal into our train of thought,” gushing, “As a fan first and foremost, imagine being onstage with Jay Electronica, Lucy Liu and Idris Elba — all people that you love… It was almost surreal for me; before I’m an artist I’m a fan, and I make music from that standpoint.”
