“Love of life or living systems” – the theme of Björk’s forthcoming album Biophilia is likely to become one of the most original ones in recent music history. Conceptualized as an album/multimedia project, Biophilia will be released as a conventional album with music video and as an “app album” which will contain ten applications for the iPad bundled within one mother app. Each app will be linked to a different song, allowing the listener to explore and interact with the song’s themes or even make a completely new version.
One example for this interactive music experience is the album cut “Virus”. The corresponding app will feature a close-up study of cells being attacked by a virus. It is the task of the listener to stop the virus from decimating the cells. However, if you beat the virus, the song will abruptly end. Thus, you have to loose against the virus to hear the entire song.
