Lady Gaga’s latest LP Born This Way has made an impressive entry at the charts. According to Billboard, the singer’s third LP has taken over the top spot of the Billboard 200 charts with over one million copies sold in its first week, becoming the biggest debut since 2005. Born This Way sold exactly 1,108,000 units, thus becoming Gaga’s first no. 1 album as The Fame peaked at no. 2 and its follow-up The Fame Monster reached no. 5. One reason for the high number of sold units can be linked to the $0.99 pricing on Amazon.com, which accounted for an estimated 440,000 copies. Since Interscope Records was not behind this promotional activity, Billboard estimates that only the retailer had to face a cost of a reported $3.2 million over two days.
