First introduced during Milan Design Week 2011, the “Basil Chair” was created by a team of designers at Milan-based Mr. Smith Studio for Italian furniture manufacturer Calligaris. Inspired by the structural composition of a basil leaf, the chair is made from a fully recyclable thermoplastic polymer called restilon that’s composed of 35% recycled materials. While the chair does have a sturdy and rigid exterior layer, the inner core features an injection molded piece for flexibility. Available with either wooden or metal legs, the stackable chairs come in a number of different colors including red, white, olive and yellow.
