Jasper Wong’s humble Above Second Gallery recently hosted the “East West Connect” exhibition, curated by Arrested Motion. The occasion highlighted various artists, most of whom took this opportunity to share their works to Hong Kong-based fans for the first time. The artists included Luke Chueh, Faile, Shepard Fairey, Evah Fan, Stella Im Hultberg, Tat Ito, Akino Kondoh, Travis Louie, Tomokazu Matsuyama, Brendan Monroe, Edwin Ushiro, Nick Walker and Yoskay Yamamoto. As the title hints, each participant either hails from an Asian background or have drawn inspiration from the Far East to create distinct works of art. What’s more, this event looks into various themes which include the “ideas of identity for those who have dual cultural allegiances, melding and fusion of artistic influences, and the discussion of the work when brought into local context when comparing audiences in the East and West.”
