Back in July, Grammy Award-winning rock duo The Black Keys stated that they had finished their seventh studio album and that it would see a release by the end of 2011. The other day, the promotional push behind the project began when, unbeknownst to many, the Ohio natives placed a car advertisement in their hometown’s morning newspaper, the Akron Beacon Journal. Although the picture in the ad was an old woody van, the caption on it humorously stated that it was an El Camino, giving away the title of The Keys’ forthcoming album. Following that first promotional placement came a website and video that continues the same theme of trying to sell that beaten-up two-door vehicle. Although the Funny Or Die-sponsored clip doesn’t seem to have much to do with music, the closing text on the screen indicates that El Camino will be on the market December 6. Watch the video up top, head over to WannaBuyAVan.com to see what this whole campaign is about, and be on the lookout for more from The Keys in the coming months leading up to the release of their Danger Mouse-co-produced LP.
