As Dr. Martens approaches their 50th Anniversary (April 1, 2010) they continue to push the envelope of design and creativity by enlisting CFDA Award – winning designer Justin Giunta of Subversive Jewelry to create four pairs of one-of-a-kind boots. These creations of wearable art will be featured exclusively during Art Basel Miami at The Mondrian Hotel in Semi-Automatic, the high-end vending machine in the hotel’s lobby which is being curated by Interview magazine during the fair.
Long known to be the footwear choice of countercultures and independent spirits worldwide, Dr. Martens was naturally drawn to Giunta and his designs. Subversive Jewelry created a movement in the accessories world by re-appropriating found objects in a labor-intensive, hand-created fashion. Giunta’s assemblages of jewels, chains and found objects became a hit with stylish women who wanted a statement piece that went against the grain and lent a tough edge to their look. His work on Dr. Martens boots continues that aesthetic for the customer who has grown up and is ready to upgrade their footwear wardrobe without foregoing their unique approach to their life and lifestyle.
Subversive Dr. Martens boots – 4 one-of-a-kind pairs are priced starting at $1,400 during Art Basel Miami Beach, December 3 – 6, 2009.
The Mondrian South Beach is located at 1100 West Avenue.
