Perhaps none other then the flagship basketball model the Superstar, from its role on the courts to the streets, the Superstar has still managed to keep things chugging along more then 35 years since its debut. Bruce Springsteen’s 1975 release “Born to Run” was an album that epitomized the times. The album’s poetic prose mixed with classic rock styling spoke of youthful independence and became the soundtrack of a generation. Swedish artist Rigas known for his abrasive yet danceable synth heavy electronic music has penned an updated version of The Boss’ classic entitled “Born Not to Run”. Despite what the title suggests the track is in no way a remake, but rather a modern take (with tongue planted firmly in cheek) of the overall feeling of the youth today.
The song deals specifically with the claustrophobia of youth, constant boredom and a pervasive dead end feeling. However, the robust synth, keyboard stabs and bass accents don’t allow the song to get bogged down in its own seriousness creating a contrast to the heavy lyrics with a danceable bass line. Rigas’ voice is a half yelled high pitched shriek that matches well with the track. The video depicts is a bleak black and white urban landscape. Rigas is draped head to toe in white as he nonchalantly runs through his verses (even checking his cell phone at one point). The video and his attitude match perfectly with the feeling and message of the song.

Add another collaboration to German sneaker boutique Solebox’s recent team-up frenzy as they look to add their own touch to the Saucony Jazz. The brown and yellow colorway is marked by mesh on the toebox and suede throughout. A release date has yet to be announced.

As a child growing up, the experiences brought on by riding his BMX and skateboard gave WTAPS founder TET an interesting outlook on life which manifested itself in WTAPS’ popular line of apparel and accessories. His experience in the realm of BMX made him an interesting and qualified candidate to design the Japan BMX Federation kits. The jerseys have strong links to Japan including the use of traditional fonts and a map of Japan.

With the latest craze surrounding the Dunk coming in the form of the Vandal Supreme treatment, we’ve seen both original colorways and the use of a nylon upper reflecting the Vandal Supreme influence. This gold/black colorway is the third installment with previous showings seen on a silver version as well as a black/gold version. No word yet on a release date.

Included in the small release seen here are a collaboration with Reebok on the NPC and Silas’ own creation, the Junket. The designs and aesthetics are trademark Silas and marked by clean lines and premium choices in materials. Available now at oki-ni.

With the recent preview of the 112 Pack comes a further look into what the three sneaker pack holds for fans starting this July. The DJ Clark Kent designed trifecta is based around the “ones” such as the Air Force 1, Air Max 1 and the Air Trainer 1. From a visual perspective, the pack revolves around three distinct elements, elephant print, 3M and neon. As mentioned, expect a first week of July release.
