Among the world’s leading art initiatives, Upper Playground will take London by storm in the month of March. Two resident UP artist associates David Choe and Saber will each be displaying their respective works at different venues. David Choe will see his work hanging on the walls of Lazarides Gallery in London/Newcastle while Saber is set for a day of in-store painting at Upper Playground London, whilst also displaying at a local spot nearby. Joining big lifestyle brand Burton in Los Angeles’ Melrose area, DC recently launched their own 7,500 sq foot space. The opening party included a preview of the upcoming 2008 Fall collection, food and drinks with appearances by the likes of Rob Dyrdek, Colin McKay, Josh Kalis, Ryan Gallant, Brian Wenning, Lindsay Robertson, PJ Ladd, Chad Kagy, Corey Bohan and Eddie Wall.
adidas’ premier Consortium releases for April have been released. The Consortium range seems to not really exude anything special for the month of April with some rather lackluster releases. Perhaps the lack of clear concise direction and concepts has been made apparent. adidas Consortium’s use of concepts was put on the back burner in a recent interview with adidas Consortium’s Dean Lokes as they decided to return to designing good colorways. We won’t jump to either side yet based on only a particular month’s releases, wait for another month to go by before these release.

Not immune to the trends of hybrids, one of Converse’s biggest releases forth coming for the 100th Anniversary of the brand is the mash-up two of it’s perennial stars, the Weapon and the All Star. In some ways you can consider the All Star Weapon Leather a much slimmer version of the original Weapon, as it maintains relatively the same style of upper. Other releases include the All Star G&S originally issued at the 1960 Olympics and the WC, another Olympic release back in 1936.

For a company that spans many generations, designer Ewan Reynolds could be considered one of the links between the classic company of Levi’s and it’s contemporary stance. As creative co-director of Levi’s FLU and his own line PLAYFORD, Ewan Reynolds has brought to life contemporary versions of wardrobe staple of denim. In an interview with Freshness, Reynolds shares his relationship with denim, his reign at PLAYFORD and the work he did designing the interior of the Levi’s newest ELESCO flagship store.
