On one eventful day, Ron Hunter head coach of IUPUI’s (Indiana University, Purdue University at Indianapolis) basketball team met Emmanuel Ohonme, founder of Samaritan’s Feet. The Samaritan’s Feet initiative created by Ohonme had the bold task of putting 10 million pairs of shoes onto the feet of children in less fortunate settings within 10 years. Immediately identifying with this movement, coach Hunter coached his January 24th game vs. Oakland barefooted, just days after Martin Luther King Day. With the honoring of the 40th anniversary of King’s passing, coach Hunter set out to raise 40,000 shoes to coincide with the anniversary. The hope is that with a pair of shoes on the feet of those less fortunate, children around the world can participate in sports without the worries of infections and diseases. However, Ron Hunter’s efforts received boost to the tune of 15,000 sneakers donated on behalf of Converse. For more information on how you can help, check out the Samaritan’s Feet website.
