Jose Parla in Australia

Miami born, New York based artist Jose Parla is currently doing a tour of Australia. For those unfamiliar with Jose Parla, he is an artist that bases his paintings around general reflections of his interactions with cities in a palimpsests form. Palimpsests can be described as many diverse layers below a surface. A city may have an inherent representation at first glance, but this at times may be a misconstruction of a cities true reflection when you break down all the different layers. This is what Jose Parla strives for through his art. The use of various less conventional materials such as vinyl, wood, and cement alongside the more usual suspects such as paper, paint, powdered dye, wax, and ink allow him to vast range of tools in helping him capture a very surreal portrait of his experiences, one that he himself can relate to on a multitude of levels. Jose Parla has already come and gone through Sydney, but his next stop occurs May 3rd in Melbourne at The Autopsy gallery. You can view his works at the show in Sydney as well. Info: Slamxhype
