Neither is better than the other. Just different. Choose whatever feels better to you; a camera is just a tool to help create photos. I shoot Nikon, and I made the choice to get a D40 over a Rebel because I liked the feel and ergonomics more. I'm glad I shoot Nikon. I'm sure that I would be equally glad if I shot Canon. This is the only worthwhile article I've ever seen on the Nikon vs Canon argument:

yeah, but the majority of the Japanese market is very technically bias, or in other words they are looking for the newest features, software etc out of the body, which sony delivers making a very impressive spec sheet. However, when you look beyond that, imo Nikons just tend to be easier to use, not to mention their lenses. Sony tend to make their camera's very stand alone where as Nikon (and Canon) maintain a theme of sorts with far better compatibility.
Don't get me wrong though, Sony's are still a great camera in their own right and will suit some people far better than other options which goes back to the whole Nikon vs Canon debate.
It's all apples and oranges. Nikons will do some things better than Canon and hence the other way around.
Personally I'm a Nikon fan due to simple things like the ergonomics, large viewfinders but at the same time I really like the technical features Canon offers.

we have the d700.

I chose nikon b/c I've been shooting with one since I was in 7th grade. Nikon produces only cameras, not silly things like copy machines and printers razz I'd still choose nikon just b/c all of the lenses are interchangeable, for that day that I will get a better camera or a FF.

Nikon handles high ISO noise better, Canon can shoot more frames per second, Nikon has more AF points, Canon lens I feel are better (although yeh FF vs. crop differences).

I've always had canon, I don't know it was my first digital camera, and first digital SLR.. But I played around with my sisters Nikon, and found the response time a bit faster.

now they are pretty much the same, but canon was always a little ahead with dslr's. Nikon ran shit with film though.

1d MK III = beast.

D3 is a beast too, but I feel that I'm leaning more on Canon's side.

A local photographer let me use his IDs Mk III for a day, it was incredible. The ergonomics weren't as good as Nikon's, but it produced STUNNING images.

Your best bet is to do your homework on your own because there can be baised opinions especially with people siding with what they know already.
Just do a little research and based off of what you've learned you can make your decision there.

*cough* CANON. lol

This thread has been much more civilized than I thought it would be... haha.

My first DSLR was Canon because I was looking into an entry level body (still using it) but didn't want to be "restricted" (used loosely so Nikonians don't go apeshit) to AF-S lenses.

I know some people who shoot both systems and love both. I also know people who have switched from either side and in the end, I think its a very equal comparison. As others have mentioned also, Sony is really moving up the ladder quickly too.

i got a Canon 1d mkIII and a Canon 30d, i need the camera for mostly skateboarding and some of all the other stuff, so i like the high fps and don't need the megapixel range, plus im a 100% for win Canon glass person

Lens is more important then camera body when its comes to producing clear and crisp images. Keep that in mind niugs
