G-Star RAW Launches Aitor Throup's First Experimental Capsule During Paris Fashion Week
A total of 20 futuristic denim garments.
In October 2016, progressive Argentinian designer Aitor Throup took over the creative reins at G-Star RAW. Since then, Throup tirelessly added his touches on the brand’s experimental offshoot called Raw Research. This past Thursday, a fortunate few were given a preview of the futuristic denim wares at this year’s Paris Men’s Fashion Week.
The subsequent range marked Throup’s second collection for RR and his first collection as Executive Creative Director—purveying a total of 20 monochromatic pieces that were constructed out of high quality, synthetic fabrics. The highlight of the second Raw Research collection is a brand new 3-D denim concept, titled the ‘Motac’ series, that challenges the conventions of denim design. This unique approach to garment construction is the result of a focused ergonomic study of the human body in motion. The approach of combining rigid denim with flexible fabric panels results in unique product hybrids such as the motocross inspired Motac-X jeans while – as far as color options go – the modern assemblage touts bleached and dark denim.
