Leading Italian fashion house Versace recently debuted its spring/summer menswear collection for 2014. Emanating from Donatella Versace’s obsession of the discipline of athletes and by association – the aesthetics of sports apparel – the spring/summer collection was a decidedly sporty one. Donatella herself cited the self-control that athletes often exhibit as a shared experience with herself during her recent efforts to stop smoking. The athletic detailing culminates in the application of sports tape to many of the models, bringing vivid color to the presentation while nicely tying together the motif. Elements of suiting are mixed into the collection, amid a range of other silhouettes that were explored for the show including double-rider jackets, trench coats and jumpsuits.
