HYPEBEAST Spaces: Suitman Studios

If you haven’t by chance heard of the Suitman initiative spawned from the creative mind of Young Kim, then you’re missing out on something truly inspiring. A native of Seoul who spent his adolescence and early adulthood in America, Young Kim began documenting his travels over two decades ago, starting with his relocation back to Asia for work. With the familiar gloom of alienation hanging over his head as he traveled to a new home in Japan, similar to the isolation he felt as a young Korean-American, the aspiring creative was left sporting a universal black suit. This suit soon signified his disconnection with new cultures, people, local scenes, etc., promoting an appreciation for individuality and emancipating him from feelings of sociocultural isolation. Suitman’s collection of autobiographical images spans across countless countries and now includes films, collaborations sprawling across various industries, art shows and more. Luckily for us, we got a chance to visit the well-traveled, dapper gent’s studio in Hong Kong, bringing back some images for our readers. Full of various memorabilia from his nomadic travels, the vibrantly white studio showcases a large range of Suitman toy creations and awesome artwork, and a hidden swinging door that unveils a more humble living space behind the initial museum-like interior.
