The Andy Monument in Union Square by Rob Pruitt

For the unaware, Broadway and East 17th in New York City represented an integral part of the pop art movement. The original location of Andy Warhol’s “Factory,” it was around the area that Warhol previously handed out copies of his Interview Magazine with an eclectic backdrop of transients, drug users and homeless. Artist Rob Pruitt originally made the move to New York because of Warhol and offers his own tribute to the famous artist via a 10-foot-tall chrome statue known simply as The Andy Monument. The statue features Warhol, circa 1977 with contemporary dress including Levi’s 501s, a Brooks Brothers tweed jacket, Polaroid camera around the neck and a Bloomingdales bag in one hand.
