Despite being displaced from New Orleans by the devastating Hurricane Katrina a few years ago, artist Jeffrey St. Romain returned to form Structure Skateboards, bringing forth his own detailed and realistic style of art. Having said that, Structure NOLA is another facet of the skate/art world that St. Romain has explored. The New Orleans inspired decks are suitable only as wall-art which seems like a consistent trend these days. Available directly though Structure NOLA.

Forget the crappy magazine scans from a few days ago, the real deal from Supreme for their 2008 Spring/Summer collection has been revealed. The collection include products designed by American cartoon director Ralph Bakshi and popular jeweler Gabriel Urist as well as a few 90s Polo inspired pieces. Here’s a selection of pieces we felt are among the strongest, with the rest available to check out at Supreme.
In an initiative to promote and create awareness about black history month, WRG? and Series Skateboards created a crossword puzzle using the names of 20 world class black skaters to answer online. The collaboration leaves the online world with the Series skateboard package featuring a 7-ply Canadian maple deck, a limited edition poster and a metallic silver Sharpie package. Only 100 packages were produced, and are available now at www.wrgmag.com.
Skating brand, Manik Skateboards, has dropped some of their newest items from their Spring ‘08 collection at GOODS. Products include the Last Supper tee, the Dreamcatcher tee, the Cock Fight tee, the Nylon Stadium jacket and the Last Supper Cap. There are of course some new skate decks as well with similar graphics as the tees. Available now at GOODS.
In a sea of collaborations, clothing brand Fiberops and concept shop UNIV poke fun at the current collaborative scene. The shape your own board affords you the opportunity for that DIY mentality, representing the philosophy of these San Diego brands. The FUNIV wheelie board is available now at Robust Flavor and UNIV (Encinitas / South Beach Miami).
The queen of the adult entertainment industry, Jenna Jameson, has teamed up with Zoo York for a limited edition skate deck. Here we have is the ad for it. The ad crated by davidandgoliath has characters from the Karma Sutra books engaged in sexual activities with a skateboard. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Since the 1980’s, a lot of popular graphics in Japan’s street scene have been produced by the design collective 7STARS Design. Recently they have collaborated with skate brand Uniful for a project that took a year in planning. Together, they have created the “Unistars” series which include skate decks featuring “Wolfgang Honecker” photo prints and a mesh cap. In addition, Uniful has released their new 2008 Spring/Summer line where you can purchase at Zozo.
Typical skateboard deck graphics are screen printed or heat transferred. Alphanumeric went a step further and used a new hi gloss treatment giving the deck an amazing shine effect. Coupled with Alphanumeric’s subtle logo hits and timeless aesthetic, the end product is nothing short of incredible. If this technique has been used before we haven’t seen it, and no this isn’t a slick deck! Available this spring with the re-launch of Alphanumeric.
In an attempt to appease the post-war housing boom facing America, the Case Study Houses was an experiment bringing together leading architects to design efficient and sustainable housing. The Skate Study House revisits this previous theme under a different premise. Regular skate decks and components are transformed into everyday household items and furniture in an attempt to make efficient and flowing designs. The installation was masterminded by Etnies founder Pierre Andre Senizergues and Gil Le Bon de Lapointe and will be on display starting January 28th at Colette.
It looks like Disney is currently working on some interesting projects. The details are vague but rumor has it that Disney commissioned the pro-skater Christian Hosoi to design some products which includes some limited edition skate decks and apparel. Other than Mickey, there might also be some other characters involved but nothing is confirmed yet. I guess we’ll just have to wait to see what exactly the products will look like.
Switzerland’s +41 hit the drawing board to design the Hubble Series for their country counterparts 242 Skateboards. Based on the Hubble telescope, the graphics seen on the tees and decks all feature shots of outerspace. Available now through +41.
The French chapter of mini-lifestyle magazine Frank151 teamed up with luxury leather goods maker Jacques Ferrand to create a collection of limited edition ostrich and crocodile skin skate decks, each bearing a Frank151 stamp. No information on availability but questions can be directed here.
