Founded by photographer Estevan Oriol and tattoo artist Mr. Cartoon, the S.A. Studios represent the Art department of “The Soul Assassins” artists collective composed of artists such as B-Real and Sen Dog from Cypress hill, Alchemist, Dj Muggs.
Collaborating on various projects with Nike and Cali-based brand Upper Playground, SAS is becoming a major source of creation blending “latin pride” culture and world-wide influences.Check out that cool video to know more about the South Cali institution.
Two of the Latino communities’ biggest movers, Mr. Cartoon and Estevan Oriol recently hosted 7-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong and accompanied him through a tour of their studios. Within the walls of the studio houses a sick collection of intricately designed artwork seen on low-riders and bikes creating not only a gallery but a museum of priceless and mint classics.

To officially kick off the three-way collaboration between sportswear giant adidas, sneaker shop UNDFTD and famed photographer Estevan Oriol, downtown Los Angeles was the venue for the opening party. Estevan Oriol was on hand to sign autographs while photos from his book and the package itself were on display. Look for the comprehensive package to hit Consortium releases soon.
Originally revealed in early December, the official release of the 1979 project will release on February 2nd. The collaborative efforts of UNDFTD, adidas and Estevan Oriol are captured through a series of products including an adidas Top Ten sneaker and book of photographs. The package looks to capture the essence of street ball and adidas’ history in basketball. The complete package will retail at Consortium dealers in February 2008 with a suggested price of $450 USD. The book on its own will release at UNDFTD and select accounts worldwide.
Estevan Oriol originally began his career in the entertainment industry in the late 1980s. It was during this period that he made contacts which allowed him to adequately express his vivid range of emotions and experiences. His ability to capture the absolute trueness of the situation made him a sought after commodity in urban and hip-hop scene. Aside from his work as a photographer, Oriol’s other exploits includes Joker Brand Clothing and the direction of music videos.
This 2007 Fall/Winter Collection created in cooperation with Upper Playground features some of Oriol’s classic and distinct imagery. These t-shirts evoke certain feelings and capture the essence of what has made Oriol such a popular figure. Look for these shirts to hit select accounts in the coming weeks.
