After a short hiatus, (COMMUNE) are set to return later this year with their 2008 fall/winter collection. Taking their work back to the drawing board, expect another solid follow-up to their debut collection from last year. In the pipeline are a series of collaborations with numerous popular entities like Alyasha Owerka Moore of Fiberops Denim, Evil Goose of Dreamworks Pictures and the re-release of their popular Lovewright Co. collabo. Expect increased details with each (COMMUNE) piece for this latest collection, with attention focusing on garment dying, washing and stitching. Here’s a quick look into what’s in store from the brand and be on the look out for a more comprehensive look into the brands fall and winter offerings.

Looking back on the styles of dress often associated with motor culture of hot rods and choppers, the uniform often consists of staples such as Levi’s 501s, white tees and Chuck Taylors or Red Wings. Ironically, the idea of fashion and this theme of motor culture are not concepts that readily go hand in hand. Through the current trend in graphic intensive designs and poor construction, (COMMUNE) has developed a foundation for their collection based on detail and high quality craftsmanship. Taking a page from the dictionary, the word commune refers to a small group of people working as a collective sharing possessions, work and following an unconventional lifestyle. To (COMMUNE), the word’s definition follows closely to the values upheld by (COMMUNE). The use of parenthesis’ illustrates (COMMUNE)’s belief that they are within their own bubble of what they feel is correct by closing themselves off from the the others and the typical representation of apparel.
