The Beams chain of retailers has integrated itself into Japan’s extensive fashion landscape on the basis of their “basic & exciting” styles resulting in the creation of an off-shoot women’s brand ironically titled Beams Boy in 1998. To mark the sub-brands 10th anniversary, Californian watch brand Nixon has offered their womens model Vega as the template to mark the anniversary resulting in a colorful watch. Available now through Beams Boy’s 26 retail locations in Japan.

Nixon 2007 LTD Collection

Southern California’s premium watch and accessories brand Nixon recently released their upcoming 2007 LTD Collection. This latest project was created in association with the humanitarian efforts of The Tony Hawk Foundation. Each watch sold will have a portion donated towards various projects and programs for the empowerment of youth. This LTD Collection features a series of watches which feature pieces taken from the skateboards and snowboards of some the sports biggest names. The likes of Tony Hawk, Danny Way, Danny Davis and Romain DeMarchi each had a part in this collection. The boards of each athlete underwent a painstaking and laborious process which involved planing the boards down to a .4mm thickness. From there, pieces of the boards were individually cut and inlaid via hand into the links of popular Nixon models, the Rotolog and the Chalet. No one model is alike creating a truly unique and rare product. Each model is further differentiated by case and link options such as black, gunmetal, gold, antique silver, antique brass and blue metallic finishes. Each watch also includes custom engraved casebacks which feature the LTD logo, athlete’s name, edition number and collection year. The watches are currently available at select skate and snow speciality shops with prices ranging from $399 USD – $499 USD.

Barneys New York x Nixon 51-30

Barneys New York x Nixon 51-30

Since Nixon’s inception ten years ago, they have become a mainstay for timepieces in the active lifestyle market and boasting a series of impressive endorses. Barneys New York has teamed up with Nixon to create a collection of exciting watches for the upcoming Holiday season. Keeping in tune with ecological ideology of Barneys, Nixon made a note of it to create some pieces which incorporated hemp and recylcled stainless steel. As well, proceeds from the sale of these watches will be donated to Project Blue, an organization which funds the ocean conservation group, Surfrider. For the design of the watches, Nixon and Barneys based their ideas around the 51-30 model, a watch which debuted over the Summer with unparalleled response. The All Black 51-30 includes a hemp wrist band limited to 150 pieces worldwide. The All Black/Rose Gold 51-30 (limited to 75 pieces worldwide) utilizes a titanium carbide coated stainless steel band coupled with a rose gold plated bezel. The crème de la crème of this collaboration features the All Black/Rose Gold Stainless Steel 51-30. Encrusted with 2 carats of full cut black diamonds, the watch includes two band options, black stainless steel and genuine stingray. A watch of this proportions was only created to the tune of 4 pieces. Aside from the different aesthetics involved with each watch, the 51-30 incorporates features such as a tide subdial, countdown timer, Swiss movement and water resistancy up to 300 meters; effectively making it a formidable time piece for any of your adventures. These watches will be available in the middle of November exclusively at Barneys stores in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Nixon 2008 Spring Collection

Watchmakers Nixon started off in 1997 as a small label which catered predominately to the skate and surf market. Slowly their influence has expanded and now encompasses a much broader demographic. A foray into the fashion market has yielded some interesting contemporary designs as seen here in their 2008 Spring Collection. Here’s a look at The Player, The Rotolog, The Spree and The Tribella. An interesting approach to many of the women designs, incorporating the watch face into a bracelet style band. Available starting February at Zozotown.
