Valentin Ozich is the founder of New Zealand menswear brand I Love Ugly.
Raised in a family of six children, Ozich learnt to express himself through creative measures, eventually becoming involved in the culture of skateboarding, street art and advertising. Beginning his design career as an illustrator and trained graphic designer, Ozich worked with clients such as adidas Originals and MTV directly out of university.
He founded I Love Ugly as a design and art collective of illustrators and graphic designers in 2008, and formed a magazine bringing together non-conventional ideas and exposing unknown artists. However, after realizing print media was difficult to monetize, the idea was then taken to be the name of his clothing brand.
Although untrained in fashion, business and advertising, Ozich realized his vision of creating a premium streetwear brand, with I Love Ugly’s original ideas soon gaining widespread popularity with its all-over prints.
With business partner Barnaby Marshall joining in early 2011, I Love Ugly soon began building a strong following locally as well as internationally, with six flagship stores worldwide in 2015. Ozich still remains involved with I Love Ugly as its creative director. He currently still lives in Auckland, New Zealand with his wife and two children.
