Description

Ryan Babenzien is the co-founder of footwear company GREATS and the brother of Brendon Babenzien. Babenzien and fellow GREATS co-founder Jon Buscemi first conceived the idea for the company in 2006 before eventually launching it in August 2013. The main drive behind GREATS was to sell high quality footwear directly to customers at value prices. Babenzien knew the ins and outs of the wholesale business and his vision and execution of a vertical men’s footwear brand ushered in a new consumer model in the footwear industry as opposed to the traditional footwear model. The fruition of the brand saw quick success in a relatively finicky niche market. Essentially, Babenzien had figured out how to eliminate third party retailers; he saw this part of the process as inefficient -- and it was this inefficiency that resulted in higher costs paid by customers. After approximately a year from its launch, Babenzien secured $1.5 million USD in funding for GREATS to help ramp up efforts through new models.
