Japanese label sacai is once again a strong contender for producing some of the best collaborative footwear designs alongside the Nike banner. The Vaporwaffle has become Chitose Abe’s silhouette of choice and has seen a plethora of renditions in terms of color and slight material switchups. But clothing from the brand’s founder have been sorely underrated and should’ve received a bit more fandom, especially the patchwork outerwear pieces from her SS21 collection that was presented this year. Regardless, Abe is still on top of her design game — she was chosen to design the next Jean Paul Gaultier couture collection in March, although the project has now been postponed due to the coronavirus. Despite the setback, sacai still produced some great releases and collabs in 2020, especially with brands like UNDERCOVER, DSM Ginza and outerwear brand Ten C.
