Stone Island has set the standard high in terms of quality functional wear for all seasons. The label’s CEO, Carlo Rivetti, chalks up the brand’s success to its unyielding commitment to timelessness and innovation. “We don’t feel that we are fashion at all,” Rivetti told HYPEBEAST in an interview. “I’m much more close to industrial design.” This sentiment is echoed throughout each piece Stone Island creates, especially the outerwear. The company prides itself in producing fabrics through rigorous tests and treatments. Precise colors and patterns are achieved through custom dyeing processes.
2020 started no different than the years before for Stone Island as new clothing concepts emerged in the form of vibrant patterns and more technical fabrics. Silhouettes were also as functional as ever with military-inspired cuts, athletic fits and versatile outerwear. On the collaboration spectrum, Stone Island linked up with END clothing for its 15-year anniversary and Supreme for another coveted winter capsule. But how the year ended however, was an expected purchase of 100% of Stone Island by Moncler. While this speaks volumes of Stone Island, one can only wonder what 2021 has in store for the brand.
