Ava Nirui, otherwise known as @avanope on Instagram, made her mark in the fashion industry with her DIY bootleg designs, taking luxury designer brands such as Dior, Chanel, Gucci and reworking their logos onto everyday objects like asthma inhalers or Champion hoodies. Her customized pieces eventually got the attention of labels such as Marc Jacobs, who enlisted Nirui to design bootleg “Mark Jacobes” hoodies and a sequel collaboration with her industry friends and family including Stray Rats’ Julian Consuegra, Better Gift Shop’s Avi Gold and IDEA. In addition to her DIY designs, Nirui is also a photographer and digital editor at Helmut Lang who helped with the launch brand revamp of Shayne Oliver’s inaugural collection. Her other recent projects include a line of Barbie doll outfits for streetwear brand Stray Rats and a limited edition hoodie for MoMA based on the Maison Margiela number labels.
