May 24, 2008 @ 14:37
t.dot.o, i have a lot of family in michigan (i live in cali), and if they wanna stay instate, they either go to 1st choice university of michigan or 2nd choice wayne state, so it must be decent.
May 24, 2008 @ 21:00
I have Rutgers on my list already.

Extra currics (in school):

Environmental/Science Club
Christian Service
Student Gov
Student Year Council
Electronic Music Club
Fencing
Newspaper
Business Staff
Asian Cultural Society
Hispanic Club (don't ask)
Stock Market Club
B-boy Club
Music Publication
Bookstore Staff
Diversity Committee
Black Panthers

(outside school):

Tennis team
Altar server at chuchhhh
Swim team
Soup kitchen volunteer
Lifeguard
Awakening Project (suicide awareness group)

i don't think you'll have a problem academically or w/ extra-curriculars, it's all what the admissions people are looking for.
May 24, 2008 @ 21:02
i know SATs are important but how important are they?
May 24, 2008 @ 21:12
ridiculously important. most schools UC status or lower basically only look at SAT and gpa (in my experience). top private and ivy league schools look less at SAT scores, but to be competitive you need 2100+ (and to get in with that score you need incredible EC's or need to be a minority).

UC = university of california

You could have a 2.0 GPA, get a 1600 on SATs, and you could get in nearly anywhere...

a session in canada costs WAY LESS than a session in the usa
college: (less than) 200$ / a session
university: (around) 2000$ / a session
May 25, 2008 @ 16:00
What could I get into with a:

3.0 gpa
6 AP classes
president of debate club
member of bsu, amnesty int'l, gay straight alliance and jewish club
70 hours of community service at library
Built homes with habitats for humanities in New Orleans?

I'm a minority in California, too.
May 25, 2008 @ 16:12
Is the 3.0 GPA with the .7 added to it (due to AP classes)?

probably any CSU and a lot of the UCs depending on your SAT scores

collegeboard.com is a good place to start looking

edit: I'm applying this year for a transfer from modesto junior college to sfsu for fall of '09. hopefully I get in... I had like a 3.5 gpa in high school, have a 3.2 right now and got a 29 on the ACT. if not, I'm off to chico

do colleges generally look at 10-12 grades? and not freshman years? because my freshman grades were atrocious
May 25, 2008 @ 17:40
I hear they mostly look at junior year grades.

Well, that's what I hear. So I'm busting nuts this year. My freshman year, surprisingly, was my most successful year, grade-wise (not bitch-wise, i gat no gamez smh).
May 25, 2008 @ 18:18
No, they look at your whole high-school career. If you said they were atrocious freshman year, but you picked up the slack and got great grades this year (and keep on improving), that shows colleges that you're willing to work and that you're actually trying. If it's good freshman year, but it gets worse, it shows that you slack off and makes them think you're not going to try.
May 25, 2008 @ 22:40
thats how exactly it is, im improving but yet my grades were so bad freshman year this year (junior year) that my honor roll grades from this year only brought my gpa to a 2.1

so i think its impossible for me to get into a 4year oh well, i regret alot of things i did in hs
May 25, 2008 @ 22:49
Wow, that's a lot lower than I expected. You seriously have to do so much fricking better next year just to get into a decent college/university. At least try to volunteer a lot over the summer to make up for it, at least. And when you apply to universities, after you received confirmation that they have gotten your application, call them up (e-mail them or write a letter) and tell them a reason why you did really bad (like you had a death in your family, so it really bothered you that whole year; but make sure it's believable and that you kind of have proof to back it up).
May 25, 2008 @ 23:03
im a junior now, college applications start in october-nov. no matter what i do they wont see my grades

hopefully this semesters grades will boost mygpa up. report cards are coming in weeks
May 26, 2008 @ 00:02
Marshall University.
the ONLY college I applied to, worked out for the best I guess smokeyface
Jun 17, 2008 @ 21:22
BUMP A HUMP.

Man, I'm seriously doubting the Finance-oriented path I'm heading towards. My job at this business/firm is fucking boring as hell, and I can't help but daze out when they're talking about all this terminology.
Jun 17, 2008 @ 22:14
Word.

Everything looks so much better from the outside. You see cats travelling the world doing business and that shit looks so easy, but in essence, it really isn't.
Jun 17, 2008 @ 23:27
I'm only a Junior now so I'm starting to worry about colleges

what were your GPAs/SATS? I'm gonna have around a 3.3 unweighted (like 4.0 weighted)
and around a 1400 SAT. not really sure how my chances are
Jun 17, 2008 @ 23:38
applying to suny's next year, i could give a shit where i go freshman year...my grades are horrible (b average, couple of c's) and i got a 1900 on my SATs, so i'm just hoping to get into stony brook (target) or newpaltz (reach) for business and will transfer in a couple of years.

seriously though, fuck a high school fuck a college fuck a future. none of this matters.
Jun 17, 2008 @ 23:47
^ Thats good enough for some schools. It really depends on where youre trying to do. There is a college for everyone, even if you did horrible in HS. What are some of the school you are looking at? A 3.3 is decent/good enough and a 1400 SAT score is pretty good. Unless youre not trying to go into an IVY league school or somewhere thats in HIGH demand (UNC, USC, NY) you should find a good place

Yeah, I also go to a top 10 ranked high school by USNEWS and World Report so I think that will probably help them realize the lower GPA. I also have sports and I'm the president of a club, and some great recommendations

Also, I've really been improving my grades.
Freshman Year: 2.8 uw
Sophomore Year: 3.3 uw
Junior Year: Probably looking at around a 3.7-4.0 uw with 2 aps

I'm thinking maybe BostonU, UMiami, RISD, USC (reach), Fordham, Tulane, and other colleges along thsoe lines
