In Algeria, hip-hop music and culture emerged as a form of self-expression for the youth who wanted to speak out on political troubles and conditions. Even through censorship and lack of support from mainstream media throughout the years, formidable artists continue to create and the scene continues to grow.
Today, music is still used as an outlet. According to Youth Policy, 70% of Algerian population are under 30-years-old and there is no youth organization to lean on. With living conditions and educational systems still not fully recovered, the current collective of artists become energies to turn to for relatability and a form of expression.
