nonnative has teamed up with Outdoor Products for the release of two reworked carrying classics, the “452U” daypack and “HIP BAG 185.”

The bags, which hark back to the 1970s and ’80s, have been given a revamp courtesy of nonnative designer Takayuki Fujii, combining the contemporary elements of the Tokyo-based label with Outdoor Products’ traditional American aesthetic. As a result, the bags are delivered in two minimalist offerings of tonal beige and black.

nonnative and Outdoor Products crafted the waist bag and daypack from durable, shiny nylon oxford fabric. Both feature a washable ultrasuede base for an added touch of luxury, as well as suede-wrapped zipper pulls. The specially-designed nylon is three times more durable than the Cordura nylon typically found on Outdoor Products’ bags, offering higher levels of resistance to wear and tear.

The collaborative duo has also given the daypack a number of bespoke touches such as padding on the back panel, a laptop sleeve, and internal pockets. Fujii said in a press release, “I first encountered Outdoor Products in 1989, during my second year of junior high school, when my older brother gave me a deep red color daypack that he owned. Over the years I bought a few replacements of the same bag as they wore out, and then on my first trip to the US when I was 19, I found some deadstock of a duffle bag that was only ever produced for 3 years in the early ’80s. The Outdoor Products logo used for this project is the old logo that was attached to that bag.”

Take a look at the bags in the lookbook above and pick up yours from retailers such as COVERCHORD on July 13.
