Alex Israel Digs Into 'Batman' Props Archive for MAMO Exhibit
Using items from Tim Burton’s 1989 film.
Los Angeles-based visual artist Alex Israel is channeling Batman in his latest exhibit. Transforming the French city of Marseille into Gotham City this summer, Israel and MAMO founder and creative director Ora Ito, in partnership with RIMOWA are signalling the Caped Crusader from Tim Burton’s 1989 flick.
Located on the rooftop terrace of Le Corbusier’s Cité Radieuse, Israel makes use of the original props on loan from Warner Bros. Studios. Utilizing the Gotham City Police Department’s Bat-Signal, the bright bat-shaped beam against the sky becomes an exterior layer to the exhibit, adding to the Batmobile placed in the gymnasium-turned-bat cave.
Take a look at the visuals above. Pay Marseille a visit to live your dream of becoming The Dark Knight until August 31.
