Kanye West Cancels His Coachella 2019 Performance Due to Stage Issues
“These 40×60 stages are so archaic.”
Over the summer, multiple sources published reports that placed Kanye West‘s name on the Coachella 2019 lineup. Now, as TMZ reveals, it looks like the Ye superstar might not be hitting the wildly-popular California festival’s main stage after all.
TMZ is reporting that Kanye West had some pretty serious problems with how his particular Coachella stage was designed; he didn’t want to perform on the standard 60×40 foot stage, which he believes is “artistically-limiting.” Coachella’s primary promoters and organizers at Goldenvoice did not wish to accommodate Kanye West’s requests, and are prohibiting any sort of stage alteration or removal. With both sides on separate sides of the aisle, a compromise was not reached, and Kanye West decided to remove himself from the bill.
“These 40×60 stages are so archaic. It’s the same type of stage on which Shakespeare’s works were performed hundreds of years ago,” reads a quote from one of TMZ‘s sources.
The annual Coachella lineup is usually revealed around this time of year, so expect the official, final list of performers to surface soon.
While he may not end up as a performer at this year’s Coachella, he does plan to show up somewhere else in the near future: Joe Rogan’s popular podcast.
