Netflix Is Getting Its Own Custom Typeface
That old font was getting expensive.

Netflix‘s newest announcement isn’t for a new film or television series, but for a change in typeface. According to It’s Nice That, the streaming service will transition from Gotham to Netflix Sans, which was developed by designer Dalton Maag.
The change has been made to give the platform more ownership of its exclusive streaming experience. Well, that and because the licensing for the Gotham typeface is getting pricey, according to Netflix lead designer Noah Nathan. “Developing this typeface not only created an ownable and unique element for the brand’s aesthetic . . . but saves the company millions of dollars a year as foundries move towards impression-based licensing for their typefaces in many digital advertising spaces,” said Nathan.
Be on the lookout for the new typeface to roll out, but until then, look below to see how the new letters will look.
